KRTU just got Cloud Nothings' new album in the mail, and it is shockingly good! Life Without Sound is the band's fourth album with Carpark Records, and their sound just keeps changing. What was once a bedroom recording project without a cause has been polished and evolved into something stronger. NPR's take on this album is worth citing...

"For a guy who once sang, "I need time to stop moving / I need time to stay useless," [Dylan] Baldi sure has found a way to infuse his songs with vitality and ambition. Throughout Life Without Sound, his songs stir up a stormy churn of guitars and abused drum heads, but this terrific nine-song set — especially "Things Are Right With You," "Modern Act" and "Up To The Surface" — also comes bearing weapons-grade hooks, each richer and more polished than the last."

Please tell me you've heard of JOAN OF ARC!

For those of you who don't know Joan of Arc, you're in for a treat. This Chicago-based project started in 1995 and is run by Tim Kinsella, a former member of the indie rock groups Cap'n Jazz and Owls. Joan of Arc's new album, He's got the this land is your land in his hands, was released by Joyful Noise, an Indie Pop/rock record label who've featured artists such as Kishi Bashi, Lou Barlow, and many more. After hearing it, I felt like Tim's t-shirt graphic in this photo.

While I was snooping around on Joan of Arc's Bandcamp I stumbled upon a message about this album from Tim Kinsella himself...

"This time, finally, we trusted each other enough to throw all the songs away, to even throw away every preconceived idea about which one of us should take position at which instrument. We hit 'Record' and played, and our collective tastes emerged. And they, our tastes in the moment, were the only standards in all the expanse of the stupefying and beautiful unknown universe, that we regarded as relevant in the least."
